You cann be ‘elected’

Do you want a position on an ICANN committee? ICANN is the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (a non-profit California-registered corporation that ‘regulates’ the Domain Name System, although it’s more complex than that), and one of the bodies that are discussed in my research. When I’ve time, I’ll put together a list of recommended reads on the saga of ICANN’s creation and functioning to date.
They seek…
- Three members of the ICANN Board of Directors
- One member of the Council of the Generic Names Supporting Organization (GNSO)
- One member of the Council of the Country-Code Names Supporting Organization (ccNSO)
- Two members of the At Large Advisory Committee (ALAC)
Further details and particulars are included in the formal call. Interested? Well, the experiment with direct elections having long been abandoned, the decisions are made by the ‘Nominating Committee’ (NomCom). So you apply to them, on a lengthy form. You can also nominate others, if you feel they are qualified.
